
Sasha Ehlers graduated from The University of The Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa. After attending NYU Tisch Film School she started her set and costume design career working with Clare Stopford on Green Man Flashing, Shreds and Dreams(2005), the Naledi Nominated Black Dog/Inj'Emnyama (2006), which toured to Stockholm, Sweden and Romeo and Juliet (2008). Sasha has worked with Sylvaine Strike on the acclaimed The Travellers (2005) and Coupe (2006) and The Table (2011). She has received Naledi Nomination’s for best set and won for best costume design for Grimm's Tales (2007) dir. Craig Higginson and for best set design and best costume design for Jungle Book (2008) dir, Craig Higginson. In 2008 she toured to Linz, Austria with Thursdays Child (2008) dir. Ntshieng Mokgoro (Standard Bank Young Artist 2008) and later designed for her play Olive Tree (2009). Other Market Theatre plays include Dream of the Dog (2007) dir.Malcolm Purkey and Loving Lulu (2011) dir. Yolandi Micheals.
She designed the costumes for Mbongeni Ngema's Sheila's Day (2010) and Miss Witherspoon (2010) dir, Cynthia Levin at The Unicorn Theatre, Kansas City. Sasha has completed her 1st year of her MFA Costume and Set Design at University of Missouri Kansas City. Her more recent projects include set design for Martin Koboekae's The Last Pro in Yeoville (2011) and Props design for the French theatre company, Theatre Taliipot's production !Aia (2011) at Artscape and Grahamstown Festival 2012. She is a part time design lecture at University of Pretoria and works across fields as a freelance set costume and props designer, art director and project manager for Theatre, TV, Film and events.
